Tampa, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-Gasoline prices continue to drop here in the Tampa Bay area. Analysts say demand for gas has dropped since the start of the year.
Both OPEC and the Energy Information Administration have both cut their global oil demand outlook for the year. The outlook comes at a time when oil output in the U.S. is at a 20 year high and supplies are plentiful.
Tampa's Triple A South has the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas at $3.53. Last week's average was at $3.59. The national average is $3.53.
Analysts with GasBuddy.com say average retail gasoline prices in Tampa have dropped by 5.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.40 this week.
GasBuddy says as we get closer to Memorial Day there is a chance for a price hike thanks to refinery maintenance season.
