Earlier this month, some police officers in Muncie, Indiana learned that a local animal shelter was running short on supplies to care for over 350 cats and kittens -- so they made a special offer the community could not refuse.
Anyone with a parking ticket was invited to donate cat food or supplies instead of writing a check!
It took just a few days for so many people to pay their parking tickets in cat food that the shelter was back in business with plenty to spare.
And, officials at the shelter noticed that most people were coming in with donations who didn’t even have a parking ticket to deal with (YAY!).
The effort came at the perfect time because during the late-summer, birth rates are especially high.
So, the police shining a light on this problem during “kitten season” allowed the shelter to keep as many animals safe and fed as possible.
This is a WONDERFUL way to support the mission of shelters, and I would LOVE IT if the idea caught on in Tampa Bay! We have some great animal welfare organizations in town, but they can't work without the necessary supplies.
