Churches pay off $7.8 MILLION in medical debt!

A church in Indiana promised earlier this year to help pay off people’s medical debt and they have made good on it!

Northview Church in Carmel, IN partnered with RIP Medical Debt, a New York-based charity, to erase the medical debt. RIP Medical Debt takes donations – like the ones from Northview Church – to purchase debt at pennies on the dollar. The debt is then paid off with no adverse consequences to those who benefit.

The church was originally hoping to pay off $2-million in debt with the $20,000 they raised. That’s impressive, but other churches caught wind of their mission, and decided to team up. Multiple churches in the community got involved and together, they were able to pay off even $7.8-million worth of medical bills for close to 6,000 families in 10 communities!

“This is a great example of churches meeting people’s needs in practical ways as a demonstration of God’s love,” Northview’s Senior Pastor Steve Poe said.

What a wonderful thing to do for their community!
