Now that the election is (technically) behind us, you may be wondering what to do with your political yard signs? Instead of throwing them away, where they'll end up in a landfill for a bajillion years, have you considered donating them?
Sarasota Honey Company will take your yard signs! Honeybee hives have to stay at a constant 98 degrees (see, you learned something new today), and the corrugated plastic that political yard signs are made of is perfect for insulating bee hives to keep the bees healthy and warm!
You may be thinking, "Why would I want to help bees?"
BECAUSE WITHOUT BEES, THERE IS NO FOOD.
Honeybees are the world's largest pollinators, and hugely important to the pollination of not only flowers, but food crops! No bees + no food. So we definitely want these little critters to be healthy, so they can do what they were designed to do for our planet!
So now that we know why the bees are so crucial, please consider donating those political signs to the Sarasota Honey Company, so they can use them to insulate beehives! Alma Johnson is the beekeeper there, and here's what she needs:
If you’re interested in donating your signs, Johnson encourages calling in advance to make sure she can use them, then dropping off during business hours, which are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and noon-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. She also requests that signs be tied together so they’re easy for her staff—many of whom are special needs—to move.
