The Buccaneers would like to be able to accomodate large groups in targeted sections throughout Raymond James Stadium. In order to do so, the team has asked about 400 season ticket holders to change their seats.
In a prepared statement, Vice President of Business Administration Brian Ford announced the seat initiative.
"We are designating certain sections of the stadium for large groups in an effort to create the best possible atmosphere and experience at Buccaneers home games," Ford said.
According to Ford, each area would accomodate 50-500 people and could attract military groups, school groups or an organization hosting a theme that would attract a large amount of .
Despite taking advantage of the new 85% threshold to avoid blackouts, only two home games (New Orleans, Philadelphia) were televised in the Tampa market this season, leading many people to speculate the Bucs plan on removing seats or tarping sections the way the Jaguars do and having season ticket holders move their seats frees up space the Bucs may need in order to do so.
Ford made it clear, that is not the intention with moving the season ticket holders into a designated area.
"In no way is this repurposing an indication that we will be removing or tarping seats," Ford said.
Affected season ticket holders will move to seats with a similar price range where other season ticket holders will be seated.
The Buccaneers will honor original seats if an affected season ticket holder is adamant about staying put, but the Bucs are stressing that the ticket holder will sit in an area designated for groups, not with other season ticket holders.
Ford said that so far most people who have received a call or letter have been receptive and understanding.
